Almost all members of the species Aconitum are toxic, and most of them if taken in sufficient quantities can cause fatality. However, many oriental schools of medicine and homeopathy have several therapeutic uses for aconite. In all these cases, aconite undergoes a very elaborate "detoxification preparation" process or is highly diluted before being administered.
