         Yes, for foods to be labelled kosher, it must be certified by a rabbi who has overseen all of the ingredients, as well as the manufacturing process and equipment. Kosher means fit or acceptable in The old Testament of the bible it says that only certain types of animals should be eaten and that you are no allowed to cook a baby goat in its own mothers milk. So from this rabbis in the Talmud developed a strict set of rules required for foods to be kosher including which animals, how to eat cook, store, raise and slaughter them.
